Palliative care for homeless and vulnerably housed people: scoping review and thematic synthesis

Introduction People who are homeless or vulnerably housed subject to disproportionately high risks of physical and mental illness further disadvantaged by difficulties in access services. Research has been conducted examining a wide range issues relation end-of-life care for people, however, contemporary scoping review this literature is lacking. Objectives To understand the provision palliative people from perspective of, benefit all those should be involved its provision. Design Scoping with thematic synthesis qualitative quantitative literature. Data sources MEDLINE, Embase, PsycINFO, Social Policy Practice CINAHL databases were searched, inception May 2020. Citation chasing manual searching grey also employed. Results Sixty-four studies, involving 2117 included, variation methodology, population perspective. The identified three themes around: experiences, beliefs wishes; relationships; care. Conclusion Discussion highlighted gaps evidence base, especially around experiencing different types homelessness. Existing advocates service providers offer needs-based non-judgemental care, organisations use existing assets co-producing services, researchers address work transforming knowledge into evaluable action.
